German Cemetery of Maleme
The German military cemetery at Maleme was founded in 1974 by former German commander Gericke and is one of the most important monuments of the 2nd World War in Crete. Here, there are 4,465 graves of the German soldiers killed from 1941 to 1945 most of whom were paratroopers who were killed during the invasion of Crete. The German Cemetery is located on the north coast of Crete, 3 km south of the village Maleme and 20 km west of Chania.


HOW TO GET THERE:  By car, taking the National Road from Chania to Kissamos. At the exit to Platanias, follow the signs to Maleme.
