Frangokastello is a small coastal village on the south side of the Crete with a magnificent white sandy beach. The village of Frangokastello (Castle of the Franks) took its name from an impressive Venetian fortress that was built in 1371. It is worldwide known about the phenomenon of Drosoulites, the shadows of lost fighters who, according to legend, appear at Frangokastello at dawn each going from east to west. Frangokastello is located 12 km east from chora Sfakion and 86 km south of chania.

HOW TO GET THERE: By car, drive up to Askyfou Plateau and then descend to Chora Sfakion. Shortly before Chora Sfakion, turn left (east) and follows the signs to Frangokastello.
