Monastery Chrisoskalitissa is one of the most famous monuments of the south-western Crete due to its impressive architecture. It is built up on a 35 meter rock with view to the Libyan Sea but the date of its foundation is unknown. According to the legend, the monastery was named “Chrisoskalitissa” because the last of the 98 stairs was golden but sold during the Turkish Occupation. Today, only sinless can still see it. Chrisoskalitissa Monastery is located 76 kilometers south of the city of Chania, 45 km from Kissamos and just 7 Km away from the amazing Elafonissi.
