Municipal Market of Chania
The Municipal Market of Chania (“agora” in Greek) is an important symbol of Chania.  It is an impressive building in a cruciform shape, with huge size of 4000sqm, in the heart of the city which was constructed in 1911 and in 1913 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos in the celebration of the Union of Crete with Greece. It houses 76 shops where everyone can buy souvenirs, folk art items and Cretan products such as cheeses, olives, raki e.t.c.

In 1980, the municipal market of Chania was declared as a protected monument by the Ministry of culture.
